Teaching Statement
My goal as an art teacher is to recreate a calm and comfortable environment that I had growing up. When I was in high school, regardless of what problems I was dealing with at home, art class was an environment where I felt safe and got completely immersed in what I was doing. Similarly, I want to create a safe and comfortable environment for my future students as well. I want to inspire my future students with art, help them develop aesthetic thinking skills and to use critical thinking in creating their art pieces because I truly believe art is necessary and not just nice.
I believe meaningful teaching hinges on the establishment of positive and caring relationships between teachers and students. As Theodore Roosevelt said, “Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.” I strive to provide my students with ample freedom in art class, allowing them to express their passions and enthusiasm while simultaneously building upon fundamental concepts and techniques.
Students started with preliminary sketches. I talked to each student individually about ways to make their ideas come to life.
I am showing my student a quick demo for rolling a ball out of clay and then tapering the end. She wanted ideas for making a base for her mushroom.
Students had the option of either making ticktacktoe boards or monsters out of clay
